Since 2004, Rafael Esquer has run Alfalfa Studio, his own branding and graphic design firm in New York City. In 2009, he launched Alfalfa New York, a lifestyle brand of limited-edition, high-quality products that feature great design, fresh graphics, with a Latin flavor.
A native of the Sonora desert of Mexico, Rafael has made New York City his home for more than 15 years. He teaches at the School of Visual Arts and has been a visiting artist in the graduate graphic design program at Yale.
Esquer currently sits on the Advisory Board for AIGA’s Diversity Archives, and helped curate the first exhibition of minority graphic designers over the last 100 years. He frequently serves as a judge and speaker at design events worldwide. In 2007, Taschen named Rafael one of the world’s 100 most influential graphic designers working today.
